| Zusammenfassung: | Eusebios, Porphyrios and Augustine in the Battle for Interpretive Authority. Platonismus und Christentum nahmen sich in der Spätantike gegenseitig als Bedrohung war. Durch Reflexion und Polemik versuchten sie jeweils, die eigene Deutungshoheit zu etablieren und die Orientierung, welche die jeweils andere Ordnung versprach, zu entkräften. Im Zentrum dieses Bandes steht der einflussreiche Platoniker Porphyrios und dessen Bekämpfung bei den christlichen Autoren Eusebios von Cäsarea und Augustin von Hippo. Platonism and Christianity perceived each other as a threat in late antiquity. Through reflection and polemics, they each attempted to establish their own sovereignty of interpretation and to invalidate the orientation promised by the other order. In their essays, the contributors of this volume focus on the influential Platonist Porphyrios and his fight against the Christian authors Eusebios of Caesarea and Augustine of Hippo. Schriften gegen die Christen haben insbesondere platonische Autoren geschrieben. Dies ordnet sich ein in eine gegenseitige Bezugnahme aufeinander und die damit verbundene Bekämpfung - ein Kampf um Deutungshoheit. Da einige Werke des Porphyrios, der im Zentrum des vorliegenden Bandes steht, nur in den Werken seiner christlichen Gegner erhalten sind, etwa insbesondere bei Eusebios von Cäsarea und Augustin von Hippo, müssen die literarischen Strategien dieser christlichen Autoren ebenso in den Blick genommen werden wie die Schwierigkeiten, vor denen die Rekonstruktion des Denkens des Porphyrios steht. Der vorliegende Tagungsband geht auf eine internationale und interdisziplinäre Konferenz zurück, die im Rahmen des Tübinger Sonderforschungsbereichs 923 Bedrohte Ordnungen in Tübingen durchgeführt wurde: Platonismus und Christentum sind hier verstanden als synchrone Bedrohungskonstellation, die insbesondere durch Polemik und Reflexion versucht, die eigene Position und Deutungshoheit gegenüber der bekämpften Alternative durchzusetzen. Platonism and Christianity perceived each other as a threat in late antiquity. Through reflection and polemics, they each attempted to establish their own sovereignty of interpretation and to invalidate the orientation promised by the other order. In their essays, the contributors of this volume focus on the influential Platonist Porphyrios and his fight against the Christian authors Eusebios of Caesarea and Augustine of Hippo.
